There are electric baseboard
heaters throughout the cottage. These heaters would not be enough to heat the place in
cold weather, however there is also a modern wood stove, red enamel, with a glass
door that gives you a good view of the fire. Wood is
supplied.
I lived at the cottage from the end of October to February in 1999. For
the first couple of weeks the feel of the heat radiating from the stove,
the smell of the wood and the dramatic view of the fire through the glass
stove door is profoundly a different and wonderful tactile experience.
A very nice change from your normal daily routine and pressures at
work.
I did find however, that carrying in wood, and taking out ashes, after
three months compromised the thrill of the experience. In short,
drudgery...but for a week or two the heating detail is a great deal of fun
and I never thought it a chore for that short period of time.
The wood stove is fairly new, a Pacific Burn, and is a fantastic stove.
It throws lots of heat and the wood seems to burn very efficiently.
